Long Island Native American Ceramic Typology

The Southold Indian Museum is developing a digital research collection documenting Native American ceramic vessels from Long Island. The project combines artifact photography, museum records, and published archaeological research with AI-assisted analysis to explore vessel forms, decoration, manufacturing techniques, and ceramic typology.

AI-generated observations are reviewed against the vessels and available documentation. Interpretations remain provisional as the research develops.
