News Around the Forks
Local historian Duane Lewin donates an important collection of Native artifacts.

Eastern Long Island is an ancient land with the first evidence of human habitation dating back 12,000 years. Native sites are abundant including in the area called Aquebogue. The Lewin family owned a farm there and the artifacts collected over 100 years indicates a rich and diverse culture. Projectile points indicate habitation from at least 10,000 years ago. Paleo-Indian points found on the North Fork date back 12,000 years.
